We raise laying hens, sizzles, silkies, ducks, and turkeys on our farm for both meat and eggs. We occasionally have birds available for sale, and have meat for sale on a seasonal basis.
Our turkey breed of choice is the Bourbon Red. They are beautiful heritage birds that are a great dual purpose bird. Our ducks are Welsh Harlequins, a multi purpose breed that provides meat and eggs, and will also raise their own ducklings. For laying hens we have a lovely mixed flock that gives us eggs of all colors, and for meat birds we are currently raising Freedom Rangers.
I have a few Silkie and Sizzle breeding projects that I am working on. I will often have extra chicks and adult chickens for sale as I work on the color projects.
Sizzle chickens are bred to look just like Silkies but with "normal" feathers instead of silkie feathers. The Sizzles are available in smooth feathered and frizzle feathered varieties. To breed Sizzles and Silkies using the frizzled gene you need to make sure that you don't breed frizzled to frizzled birds, as this produces some birds with a double copy of that gene who aren't ideal and might not be as healthy or hardy.
